Confusion about OryCon

Doing online research for my writing, I have found something confusing about OryCon: apparently it's not always Friday through Sunday. One of them was Saturday through Monday, and another was planned to be Thursday through Saturday, and I'm just very confused about why that was.

Also, someone needs to update the Wikipedia page about OryCon, because it only lists through OryCon 42, and there have been two more since then, with OryCon 45 being planned for 2025.

If you're curious, Dalia and co go to OryCon in book two (but not book one) and for plot reasons didn't go in book three either, which would've been the last chance they would've gotten to go until book seven, which is the one I'm working on now and takes place in 2021 and 2022. (Yes, the events of books 4 and 5 both take place within 2020, and book 6 takes place in 2020 and 2021.)

Recession this, recession that.

"Recession." I'm so tired of hearing about recessions. The US has been in an economic depression since at least 2001 and never recovered from it. The word "recession" just means that the depression has gotten worse.

Actually, on second thought, when was Reagan elected President? The 80's? The US economy has been in a depression since the 80's. My point about recessions still stands.

Horror dream

Just had a dream taking place in a future where bioengineering and genetic engineering were perfected and used in weird ways. I didn't see much, but what I did see... yikes.

The scene I was in, my character was out at like a mall or something, watching as some people brought in these two things that looked like dog carriers made of human bone and muscle. Grotesque is these things were, they didn't look dangerous, but my character was absolutely terrified of these things in a visceral way and wanted nothing more than to get away as quickly as possible, but they couldn't and the dream stopped before whatever these things were got deployed. Apparently they were some horrible monstrous abominations that would unfold out of that compact form and would capture people and somehow rip and tear people alive not to kill them, but to twist people into more of themselves. While alive, with no anesthesia.

Whatever these things looked like when they unfolded, I didn't see, but I got the impression that they wouldn't look remotely human anymore. But still somehow worse than looking like dog carriers made out of meat.

Fascinating setup for a body horror sci-fi movie, I tell you. I'm not sure if I'd watch that movie or not, as I got the impression that the gore and body horror for that one would make it kind of like a cross between the human centipede and the Serbian film. You know, one of those horror movies so vile and horrifying that people walk out of the theater puking and crying, and the people who made the movie get investigated for murder and torture.

This was all impressions I got from the general vibe from the main character's memories, but apparently he had seen one of these things before, survived, and was not keen to see one again. Like, this was "get me the fuck out of here because I'm about to have a panic attack" levels of freakout.

There was a question on YouTube just now that asked "Which would you choose if you had to choose one or the other: A. Waking up every day as a different person, or B. Living the same day over and over again for decades?" My response was "Ew, neither. Living the same day over and over again would get terribly boring." But then I had this follow-up thought: "With how detached my life tends to be from the outside world, how long would it take me to notice the day was repeating?" Then I laughed, because TBH it would probably take me a few days to realize I was in a Groundhog Day scenario. Whether I noticed or not would likely depend on if I had been writing or not, as I'd be annoyed to find that things I had written had disappeared, but I'd probably think it was a computer glitch at first. Similarly, if my WhatsApp messages with Brooke didn't match what I remembered happening, that might clue me in too.

Kitsune

Ravenstone series species facts: Kitsune.

Kitsune (sapient talking dire foxes that can take human form) have no cisgender males. They only have cis females, trans men (assigned female at birth), and intersex women with various different modes of insemination, depending on the individual's specific genetics. Only the intersex women can impregnate other Kitsune, but all cis women and most intersex women in their species can get pregnant. Despite this, they have low breeding numbers because they are very long lived and their breeding season is always decades after the last one. They also have a system by which those who wish to have a child need to save lots of money in order to purchase the permission to make the attempt from their local lord or lady.

As such, there are no entirely heterosexual pairings in their species (from a human perspective), since a trans man with a cis woman or intersex woman is still a queer relationship, and the trans man / cis woman pairing would still require the assistance of an intersex woman to produce children. (A service that can be paid for if you have the coin for it, no different really from a sperm bank.)

I'm currently watching a couple DS9 episodes from season 2, wherein a fascist group is doing a coup against Bajor's government, which is being orchestrated by a hostile outside power, the Cardassians. Gee, I wonder why that sounds so familiar?
